Study of Perspective in Glass (2020)
Ai Weiwei is undoubtedly a very sought-after artist. Like the first series of sculptures on offer, this one comes from the photo series of the same name, which shows various architectural landmarks, government buildings and landscapes. From the skyline of Hong Kong to the Federal Palace in Bern, at which the artist Ai Weiwei points his middle finger. A call to the viewer to always question their own reverence for these institutions or places. It is a criticism by the human rights activist of the abuse of authority.
The glass sculptures “Study of Perspective in Glass” are the embodiment of the world-famous series of images in six different colors. They are intended to remind the viewer to critically question social developments.
In collaboration with Berengo Studio, the unmistakable gesture is created as a replica of the artist's hand. The Murano glass sculptures in the colors pink, green, red, black, aquamarine and yellow are each numbered on the bottom as one of 100 and bear the engraved signature.
As the sculptures are part of the artist's most famous series, which brought him worldwide fame in the late 1990s, they occupy an important position in Ai Weiwei's oeuvre. China's most expensive living artist represents a unique opportunity for collectors due to his global fame.
