About the watchmaker Patek Philippe
The name of the Swiss watch house Patek Philippe stands all over the world for tradition and class combined with innovation and perfection.
The company's origins date back to 1839, when Antoine Norbert de Patek and Francois Czapek founded the watch manufacturer "Patek, Czapek & Cie". Even then, the company's aim was to produce nothing less than the best watches in the world.
From 1851 onwards, de Patek developed the innovative ideas together with Jean Adrien Philippe and Vincent Gostkowski - Czapek had since left - under the banner of the new watch house "Patek Philippe & Co". They reached their first high point with the invention of the winding crown, which made the extra key, which was a constant companion at the time for winding the movement and setting the time, superfluous. In doing so, they fundamentally changed the use of watches and were consequently able to count colorful figures from history, such as the British Queen Victoria Elizabeth, among their customers.
In 1868, the company produced the first Swiss wristwatch for Countess Koscowicz of Hungary, with principles such as perfection and innovation continuing to be the maxim. With their well-thought-out design solutions, they have dominated the market ever since, with entrepreneurs Charles and Jean Stern acquiring a majority stake in Patek Philippe SA, which was already a joint-stock company, in the wake of the global economic crisis in 1929. The manufactory is still owned by their family today.
A large number of technologies and inventions can be traced back to the world-famous Patek Philippe watchmaking company. With the crown winding and the minute repeater, the company laid the foundations for today's automatic watch. In 1947, Patek Philippe also presented the world's first wristwatch with a time zone display and still holds over 100 patents today, thus asserting its pioneering role in the art of watchmaking.
