"Postludio" by José María Yturralde: A poetic play with space, light and perception

With "Postludio," Spanish artist José María Yturralde creates a work that transcends pure painting and appears almost like a meditation. A luminous square, whose color intensity decreases from the center to the outside, inevitably captivates the viewer's gaze. The transition from vibrant red to darker edges creates a visual tension that oscillates between energy and stillness.

The 2020s mark a phase in which Yturralde condenses his decades-long exploration of space, illusion, and perception into concentrated color surfaces. "Postludio" exemplifies this search for the invisible behind the visible. The soft color gradients, which appear like pulsating light, are reminiscent of the experiments of Op Art and, at the same time, of the spiritual experiences of immersion in pure color.

The title "Postludio" musically refers to an epilogue—a piece that lingers after the original work has already faded away. In this sense, the work unfolds its effect not only in the moment of contemplation, but also in its inner aftermath.

Using minimalist means, Yturralde succeeds in developing a universal visual language that oscillates between rational constructiveness and emotional intensity. "Postludio" is less a picture to be viewed than a state one enters—an echo of color and light.
