"Eos" by José María Yturralde: An intense play with light, color and space
With "Eos" from 2020, José María Yturralde creates a work that transcends pure painting, drawing the viewer into a dynamic interplay of color and space. A vibrant violet glows at the center, transforming into warm, almost orange-red tones toward the outside. This color gradient creates a vibrant tension that oscillates between inner intensity and outer expansion.
The 2020s mark a phase in which Yturralde condenses his decades-long exploration of perception, illusion, and geometric abstraction into concentrated, meditative color surfaces. "Eos" exemplifies this search for the invisible structure behind the visible world. The gentle transitions between violet and orange seem to pulsate, creating an almost kinetic effect and reminiscent of Op Art experiments, without losing their emotional depth.
The title "Eos," Greek for the goddess of dawn, lends the work a symbolic dimension: a moment of transition, of dawn before the full day begins. Thus, the work unfolds its effect not only in the immediate gaze, but also in its lasting inner resonance.
Using minimalist means, Yturralde succeeds in developing a universal visual language that balances rational precision with sensual intensity. "Eos" is less a picture to be viewed than a state to be experienced—a blaze of color, light, and space.
