This example shows the enormous ageing potential of wine, especially of Château Lafite Rothschild wines. Parker describes that the wine only reached its full potential on the second day after opening, after decanting. Ageing occurs through slow oxidation in wine, and once the bottle is opened, oxidation accelerates, which is why wines often do not last long after they are opened. This box has now received a total score of 100 points, based on a re-tasting specifically for this collection. The potential of this 1990 wine is now estimated to be up to 30 years, with a peak still to come. This work of art has to be savoured. A wine produced 34 years ago still has its peak ahead of it. One of the main reasons for the outstanding quality is that the wine has been aged in perfect conditions at the Château and was specially selected and bottled for this purpose. You can be sure that there is no 1990, 2000 or 2010 Lafite that is in better condition and comes into your possession with greater certainty than the wines in this box.
